The other weekend me and my OH went to visit the new Globe in London finally. We loved it, had a guided tour and got to see the actors warming up and the stage having last minute things done to it. As a result I was in a 'wanting to read Shakespeare' mood anyway but this has been boosted by a wonderful post by Robin at A Fondness for Reading
They describe a wonderful way to immerse yourself in the play using a variety of texts and the films. I am so stealing the idea but will leave it until the summer when I will have more time on my hands. Now to choose a play! I have read Macbeth and Measure for Measure, which one do you think I should go for?

That's a wonderful way to get immersed in Shakespeare. Macbeth and Hamlet are my favorite plays but I love the movie versions of A Midsummer Night's Dream and Much Ado About Nothing.

Hmmm. I'm personally a Much Ado About Nothing and Taming of the Shrew fan. I think of myself as leaning toward favoring comedy. But, there are parts of Romeo and Juliet that make me think, "Whoa! Wish I'd met a guy who thought of me that way!" And I like a well-done Hamlet. Sounds like loads of fun. I've walked past the Globe theatre in London, but we didn't go inside.
Hamlet! Or Twelfth Night! Or kookiejar's suggestions.
I forgot that you'd still be in school. My brother-in-law goes straight til the end of July. I'm already in my third week of holiday!

I'm definitely reading more Shakespeare using this method. The next one I'll be reading is probably "The Tempest".

You should probably go for Hamlet or maybe one of the comedies like As You Like It but may I make a small plea for King Richard III. The title character is one of the best villains in literature, IMO.
I went to the Globe last summer.... it is awesome to see. I actually saw the troupe perform Corialanus. My favorite Shakespeare plays are: Twelfth Night and As You Like It. They're both a lot of fun to read.

Midsummer's Night Dream is one of his easier reading plays. But I'm partial to King Lear and The Winter's Tale - not as popular as some of the others but good reads nonetheless.
